When you thing of the Nightwatch, you think of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. But did you know that The Hague also has a Nightwatch! It’s a little smaller than the original, but just as impressive.
This Nightwatch is hanging in my studio, Studio Jean on the Thomsonlaan 65. I painted this copy a few years ago because Rembrandt’s is a great inspiration to me. This painting is the pride of my studio and attracts the attention of passers by and tourists. Apart from the Nightwatch there are also a few self portraits of Rembrandt in different stages of his life. It’s almost as though Rembrandt is guarding the Nightwatch himself.
This year it is the 350th year of Rembrandt’s death. Many museums have wonderful exhibitions about his life and work. So enjoy this special year and all it has to offer.
