This painting was painted by Jean Elliot. It is a self-portrait of Rembrandt from 1630. He wears a barret here and looks pretty seriously. Jean Elliot: “In my opinion, Rembrandt showed a change in style here in his selfportet from 1630. The beginning of a somewhat coarser or looser way of painting is here announced. It was a challenge to be able to follow the changes in Rembrandt’s style and to adapt my way of painting. ”
Rembrandt’s intriguing painting technique has stimulated countless art lovers both during his life and to this day. For artist Jean Elliot it was a huge challenge to imitate the different styles and techniques of Rembrandt. Because of his vision deteriorating with the years, his method changed over the years. From setting very fine brush strokes he increasingly went to rough painting techniques, which makes it difficult to interpret his work in the right way. With her careful and realistic way of painting, Jean Elliot has succeeded in approaching Rembrandt’s specific talents, such as the representation of light and light.
